Good Health is about 4 Simple Things…

Dr.’s Notes Script

"Good health isn't just about seeing your doctor every few years for tests, It's about four simple things: eat right, exercise 30 minutes a day, don't smoke, and manage your stress." (That’s a quote from Dr. Michael Parkinson the current president of the American College of Preventive Medicine)

A Small Change Can Make A BIG Difference.

If you are having trouble making up your mind and committing to even one small healthy change to your lifestyle, just think about things this way.

Many people don't even attempt to make lifestyle changes because they have neglected their health for years, and think, "What's the use now? It won't matter." Wrong! In fact, every little change can make a big difference in your health.

  • If you can't see yourself walking for 30 minutes, at least walk around the block daily and see how much better you feel.
  • If you can't lose 40 or 50 pounds, aim for just a pound or two and see where it takes you. Research shows that losing even 10-15 pounds can significantly reduce your risk of diabetes, lower your cholesterol and blood pressure, and help you feel a lot better.
  • If much of the food you eat comes in a cellophane package or box with an expiration date, skip it. Add one more fruit, vegetable, and whole grain food daily to your diet. They are low in calories, high in fiber, and help protect against high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. They taste great, too. Eat at least 3 or servings of whole grains daily. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
  • If you are short on sleep (most North Americans are) go to bed a half hour earlier. It can do wonders for your mental health and productivity.
